AZAD-HYE (5 December 2004): As a result of the cooperation between the Ministry of Cultural and Youth Affairs of Armenia and the Department of Culture and Information of the Government of Sharjah (one of the 7 Emirates that consist the UAE), an Armenian Cultural Week is scheduled to take place in the city of Sharjah from 11-17 December 2004.
On this occasion and for the purpose of improving the cultural ties between the two countries, the Armenian Minister of Cultural and Youth Affairs Hovig Hovhannisian is expected to arrive Dubai International Airport on 10th December 2004, accompanied by an official delegation and participants of the festival (total number 30).
The program of the events is as follows:
1- Sunday, 12 December 2004: Official opening ceremony and the inauguration of the Armenian arts exhibition (6:30 p.m., Sharjah Art Museum).
2- Monday, 13 December 2004: Lecture by Ambassador Dr. Arshak Poladian on "Armenian-Arab cultural relations" (8:00 p.m., EXPO Center)
Armenian traditional music (8:30 p.m., EXPO Center)
3- Tuesday, 14 December 2004: Concert by Komitas string quartet and famous Armenian duduk players (8:00 p.m., EXPO Center).
4- Wednesday, 15 December 2004: Pantomime theatre (8:00 p.m., Sharjah Higher Institute for Theatrical Arts).
All members of the Armenian community and their friends are invited to these unique cultural events.
It is worth mentioning that since its opening in 2000, the Armenian Embassy in the UAE had previously organized two cultural weeks in the capital Abu Dhabi (March 2001 and December 2002). During the later one ex-Minister of Cultural, Youth and Sports Affairs Roland Sharoyan paid an official visit to the UAE and lectured at one of the cultural centers in Abu Dhabi.
